Title:听The Power of Data in Sport: Exploring Business Insights and Performance Analytics
Speaker: Dr. Yoseph Mamo
Abstract:听Big Data has increasingly become a vital tool for managers and researchers, transforming both the business and performance aspects of sport (Mamo et al., 2021). On the business side, it is used to analyze consumer behavior, purchasing decisions, pricing strategies, customer loyalty, and more (Du et al., 2023). On the performance side, it helps analyze game strategies, player abilities, win probabilities, team performance, injury prevention, and even sport betting. With its unique global visibility and large audiences, the sport industry generates an immense volume of business- and performance-related data. To fully leverage this data-rich environment (Wedel & Kannan, 2016), modern analytical techniques from fields such as data science, computer science, and AI are essential. I will share some of my ongoing work in this presentation, including developing domain-specific language models to understand sport fans' motivations from textual data. More specifically, this talk invites scholars to explore collaborative opportunities at the intersection of sport and the potential use of various data types, such as video, image, and voice, to enhance sport' business, societal, and competitive outcomes.
