Undergraduate Program

Engineer's Week 2022

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers a four-year undergraduate program leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE). The BSCE degree program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET, . The undergraduate degree in civil engineering prepares graduates for entry into professional practice and continued intellectual and professional development throughout their career.

Additionally, we offer an undergraduate minor in environmental engineering with two tracks available: aqueous environmental systems and environmental protection. An undergraduate minor in civil engineering may be obtained by students from outside of the major.

Civil Engineering

Earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE). Civil engineers conceive, plan, design construct, and maintain the facilities and infrastructures that are essential to our civilization.

Full-time undergraduate students with GPA > 3.0 can complete the requirements for the bachelor's degree in four years and the master's degree in one additional year. Eligible student can choose a master's program in the same discipline as his/her bachelor's program or in a complementary discipline in the Batten College of Engineering and Technology. Subject to the approval of the undergraduate and graduate program directors, a student enrolled in a linked BS/MS program can count up to six credit hours of course work towards both the undergraduate and the graduate degrees. For more information on pursuing an accelerated degree program, please make an appointment with the Chief Departmental Advisor and Graduate Program Director.

Chartered in 1987, the 91制片厂 Civil and Environmental Engineering Visiting Council (CEEVC) serves as the advisory group of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. As one of its many initiatives, the CEEVC is pleased to offer the opportunity for students to apply for reimbursement for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam fee. The CEEVC accepts applications for reimbursement on a rolling basis for 91制片厂 Civil Engineering (CEE) undergraduate students who take and pass the exam prior to their graduation.

Completed reimbursement forms must be submitted to the CEE Academic Office, Kaufman Hall #135, with a copy of your test results.

This interdisciplinary minor is for students who would like to learn about energy engineering fundamentals, socio-environmental impacts of energy systems, and novel energy engineering technologies. The minor will enhance students' abilities to integrate knowledge from different disciplines with concepts used in energy engineering, and offer the opportunity to be recognized for study in this growing interdisciplinary field.

Those interested in applying should contact Dr. Sandeep Kumar (skumar@odu.edu) via email.

Academic Advising

Each student is required to meet with their assigned CEE Faculty Advisor every semester prior to registration for a future term. Students' discussions with their faculty advisors involve career exploration, choosing a minor (if desired), advice on course selection, pursuit of graduate study, opportunities for internships and co-ops, etc. Once the student meets with their assigned faculty advisor, the advisor block on the student's account is removed, and only then can a student register for courses. Additionally, 91制片厂's Career Development Services provides a full array of career services connecting students with employers.

For any academic advising questions, please contact the CEE Department:

  • Dr. Gangfeng Ma, CEE Chief Departmental Advisor, gma@odu.edu
