I’m a strong believer in the concept of “self-awareness”. It’s actually a lot to think about and learn for someone with severe mental illness, but to quote the quote at the top of this post: “Self-awareness is the ability to see and appreciate and be aware of your inner self.” It’s not just about acknowledging a bad habit or a mistake.

The idea that someone with a mental illness can recognize and recognize their inner self is something I’ve been trying to work on for a long time. It’s one of the most important things to remember when we struggle with mental illness. In one study, the average person with bipolar disorder recognized their inner self at a rate of 64 percent compared to the control group who only recognized their inner self at a rate of 13 percent.
