No one person or department owns well-being on our campus. Using the collective impact model, we created a shared action plan to improve the culture of well-being at 91ÖÆƬ³§.

What is Well-Being?

Simple Definition: An optimal and dynamic state that allows people to achieve their full potential.

Expanded Definition: We define well-being as an optimal and dynamic state that allows people to achieve their full potential. Our focus is on two interdependent types of well-being: 1) individual and 2) community.  Individual well-being is defined within three broad and interrelated categories: (a) the perceived assessment of one’s own life as being generally happy and satisfying, (b) having one’s human rights and needs met, and (c) one’s contribution to the community. Community well-being is defined by relationships and connectedness, perceived quality of life for all people in the community, and how well the community meets the needs of all members. By focusing on the whole — the whole person, the whole educational experience, the whole institution, the whole community — well-being becomes a multifaceted goal and a shared responsibility for the entire institution.

Well-Being Charge

The Well-being Collective endeavors to create a culture of wellness, care, and support to improve the overall health of the 91ÖÆƬ³§ community. The development of a systematic, population-based approach to well-being will provide a mechanism for students and staff to access educational and support initiatives through a centralized comprehensive continuum of resources and services.

We strive to:

  • Create a culture on campus that supports and improves the overall health of 91ÖÆƬ³§ students, faculty and staff. 
  • Use the model to address issues that impact the health, wellness and well-being of 91ÖÆƬ³§ students, faculty and staff.   
  • Take a community approach to well-being that will be effective in creating a culture of care and positive change.  
  • Work towards a common agenda.
  • Educate and provide resources to our constituents to support their individual and community wellbeing.

The Okanagan Charter

An International Charter for Health Promoting University and Colleges, which calls upon post-secondary schools to embed health into all aspects of campus culture and to lead health promotion action and collaboration locally and globally.  91ÖÆƬ³§ is striving towards our commitment to the Okanagan Charter in demonstrating our vision of a health promoting university.
